2016 (season 3.75)

Was recently informed that the season had changed, so here’s some new news… Things are real tasered up, and in all next levels of production. Officially “jazzed” about the weekend of October 21st-23rd…

–Friday: Lighting things off, Rebel Hands Press will happily be present on night one of Open Press 2016 hosted by Insert Blanc Press + Outside Gallery. 

Excited to share this terrificness w/ so many amazing folks + fun. For our part, we’ll have 2 shiny new publications/art objects on hand:

-“ARThrITIS Flocking Kit” – by j. shelley harrison.

–“Lil’ Help?: A Charming yet Challenged Version of the American Masculine Kitchen” – by: Mark Rice + Jeremy Kennedy.

Featured in the evenings sched of readings and performances (Check out this line up, srsly.), j. shelley harrison will be presenting a new piece, and heads up for a tray pass style presentation of several Charming yet Challenged hors d’oeuvres!

–Saturday: “Hotelevisions” A secret show in a hotel room curated by Chelsea Rector, j.shelley harrison, and I!

This incredibly ephemeral event will feature a variety of work from installation, performance, sound art, to beyond. While working in tandem, each artist checks in with their respective hotelevisions to transform these comfy confines.

Featured Artists: Brody Albert, j. shelley harrison, Joey Cannizzaro, Michael Shroads, Sammi Skolmoski, tea_sips, Zach Taylor.

–Sunday: To close out the wkend, Artist Guan Rong will be doing a performance for the finale of Open Press, which will be held at Poetic Research Bureau. Another amazing line up, and we’ll be there w/ some remaining copies of her book “Spanish Silver Fox”.

Aside from all that action, site updates here in all the right places. +, “Shadow Instinct”, a new project I’m excited about which explores learned behavior (#flockingdoeswork)!

Keeping up the slow roll of collab by mail works w/ the likes of Crab Jackson, Joshua Brennan, and recently Rob Hessler. Good times.

On the sound-making front, Yosuke Kitazawa and I are still sitting on some remaining copies of this tape we did for Friends & Relatives Records…

(think they may have ran out, hit us up here!)… Motivated by some recent jams and casual performings w/ some incredible players, we hope to be throwing down more and more over the next few months.

2016 (season 3.5)

Summer arrived with a ding. bleh, trying to file all the work, studies, ideas, and general whatev’s away in their proper places here at table blue has become a royal pain. How dare these seasons.

And-uhhh yeh, some updates herein, the usual zones… new work!!

…and more new work, in the works, all the times! Building now to thunder down in the future days…

Which will tastefully premiere in October at this year’s Open Press event here in los angeles, along at least one more new knotch in the Rebel Hands Press belt… details forthcoming.

Amidst all the lackluster ______ this year has coughed up since awakening, we found “brexit”, which crashed straight to the bottom of the incredible portmanteau list frequently groomed and manicured by ms. E. Morgan and i.

Aside from portmanteaus, we also dabble in creating clever and humorous terms formed from disentangled sets of lettering found in the streets and alleys of our respective cities. Bound as a series titled Street Terms, volume II is currently rising to a slow boil…

SOOOOOOOO many ridiculously rad collabs going in/out the door here! very taser workings with J. Brennan, Crab Jackson (with homespun titles such as “legst” and “bagst”), burgeoning action between Rob Hessler and i, connecting existential dots w/ ms. E.K.D., pyschogeographing from heart emoji to heart emoji w/ j. shelley harrison all the whilst her + i plan an exciting ?mystery? show with LA’s own ms. Chelsea…some(thing) to do w/ hotels… and their rooms.

most of which will bubble and explode in the coming months!

showing-up: follow up

this most recent whirlwind tour, where i airplaned in, attempted to torture all my local loved ones for a few days, threw up an exhibition and airplaned away went so yes. idk, i had fun.this show went down like a drowning child (frantic/glorious), an opening for personal closure, and the scene was taser. 33 new/recent pieces, 2 books. the “there is a wrong time for everything.” show will remain on exhibition at the fell building til the end o’ may.even the reading here (above), with introduction by no other than winterman hisself, felt damn on!gr*8 times flocking bloomington, indiana w/ ms. j. shelley harrison the day before. though i was only able to experience a few hrs of this 13 mile ARThritIS mini-marathon as (knee shy), which began at W. That Rd. (srsly)….it was terrif! look up/look down.

giant thanks to everyone who outed it to make this all work: crab jackson, the winterpeople, j. shelley harrison, hien + fam, wwClaytor, terri fresh (from: gross air–coming all the way down from her space kraft somewhere over chi-ca-go!!), lunch skirt, everyone at the fell gallery, everyone who came out, hung out, old besties and new pals.

Gearing up for an upcoming whirlwind run through the middle-west!

Dialed in this drone strike of new and recent works at the Fell Building… Bloomington, IN… and/or however far the casualty radius expands. Along w/ this action, fellow traveling artist/collaborator j. shelley harrison and i (kneeshy) will be taking the day before to explore/expand new work involving “flocking” and the open-ended, open-entry band Arthritis, in very off-site ways… details forthcoming.

THERE’S A WRONG TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Compiled from four distinct, intertwining series, There’s a Wrong Time For Everything selects 33 pieces of new and recent works completed on paper.

Neon migraines. Masculine vulnerability. The feminine stance. From text-heavy, paint-starved one-liners to paragraph-laden collage, these works exemplify Kennedy’s knack for wry interpretation and genius misunderstandings.

Some years’ worth of careful, cynical, inward, outward, behavioral observations have been slammed up against the artists’ lexicon of humor and absurdity to create his favorite version of the world: where sorority girls and ex-princesses do Rule.

The artists’ heroines, like his jargon, are ruthless. Kennedy’s heroines have not simply been mused upon—-they command his existential dread. With their bratty stares and sassed hips, they also seem to destroy him. Yet there’s something in their stance that the artist trusts, and he allows himself to be held amongst the pain-waves of failed life formulas, invented personalities, love and lack, anxiety.

In the rare image, both text and heroine have disappeared. The thought is finished.

In addition to the collection, two books will be on hand. Anti-Fantasy, an extremely limited edition set of bound giclee prints featuring selected material from the show, as well as There’s a Wrong Time for Everything, an extension of the presented works built with the written word and found imagery.

A short reading by the artist from There’s a Wrong Time for Everything will occur at the opening.

2015 (season 4 / BLUE friday sale)

write, sew it seams that i totally skipped a season here. not surprising, as i’ve missed every season of every tv show that everyone has mentioned for the past 5 or so years, or maybe it’s a socal thing, as every day feels pretty much like the one before, and then, #elnino.

in more taser news, things are going swimmingly! my hair has been looking fab recently and there’s plenty of new work in the usual areas. like painting and photos and stuff.

+ still working / building w/ j. shelley jazz panther on our b.r.a.t. installation. ++  building blocks for some coollage curation in portland early next yr. +++, i believe it’s official that i’m bringing a collection of recent works titled “there’s a wrong time for everything” to the middle west this spring, with book and reading in tow.

re: books- rebel hands press (herein referred to as: rhp), just killed it w/ a super fun and successful launch for guan rong’s “spanish silver fox“, thanks to all and wccw for having. us!

2015 (Season 2-ish / #SUMMER)

Missed the usual solstice update sched by a mile this time round, guess i was too busy worshipping the sun, lying on farm carpet, working on my “Chardonnay Laugh” and…yeah…fucking busy.

Alas….This site continues to deteriorate as my mac book gently weeps. So, i’m jus gonna keep adding stuff and things (new stuff and things as well as a few archive digs), in all the (un)usual sections + “available for purchase” zone.

Then there are the books… Guan Rong’s “Spanish Silver Fox” has just been sent to press (L.A. RELEASE PARTY TBA)! Also, in golden edit mode with Ms. E. Morgan, Ms. Lunch Skirt, whilst the Goatmother and I are bringing things to a boil in the kitchen w/ our upcoming food book, and Mr. Moerchen and I are still having fun faxing each other. Into the onward!—-> Been over a year since I’ve had a proper show, so that’s gotta change. Solo styles, collab styles, + working several sharp angles with Blue Cut Dynamite (a.k.a.- J. Shelley Harrison). I rarely travel without some ulterior motive (art, noise-making, etc.), and have designs on the Northwest, the Bay-Bay, the NY, the Middlewest… sooner than later! we’ll see.

Know I’m forgetting like a ton of shit, but it’s martini time + I wanna go swimming. If you like to swim, you should go swimming too.

Do what you want to do. Don’t do what you don’t want to do.

2015 (Season Springed)

The cold thing, the clock thing, and now the spring thing…

Rebel Hands Press is super active, and we’re apparently “jazzed” about it… look for us this summer.

2014 (Season FALL)

Fall!

But first, the summer(y)… Things got a lil’ garbage claw for a bit. Some things got srsly derailed. Sooooo…the last 1/2 of summer was decidedly tired date. Still managed to sprinkle up some work, woks, lotsa soup and salad, sound-making, seeing, sawing, scoring, shooting, screening, and so on and such. Alotta which can be seen here because seasonal site updates. More to come soon!

Aside from finishing off some of that noise, there is plenty on the platter… some 3-D, some 3-dimensionals, funny foods, piano preparations, uhm…books, a big archiving project (as soon as i acquire a new scanner), more collab action, and some other things will happen too.

Enter the Owlery: Bloomington, IN

That’s right! For anyone who missed, or wanted to get another view of some work from our 2 day Feral Dynamics installation with Audim Culver and Ivy Siosi at the Church space, the ex-pats (Elaina and I) are now owling out at Bloomington’s top spot for rad meals…The Owlery!

Up now… til whenever they tear it down!
